What an incredible day! THS competed against UHS in the very first Esports game yesterday. It was an amazing experience seeing the energy and teamwork of both teams come to life.
THS defeated UHS, but more than the wins or loses, what really stood out today was the spirit of competition and the camaraderie we saw from every single player and coach. From the very start, we heard players encouraging one another, sharing strategies, and really coming together as a team. Coaches were right there giving advice and helping the teams stay focused and sharp.
What made today even more special was seeing such a diverse group of students, all coming together, strategizing, socializing, and competing like a true Esports community. Watching everyone—from different backgrounds and interests—find common ground and have fun was what made today so special. And let’s not forget the coaches, who were giving awesome advice and keeping teams laser-focused.
Dr. Stacy Keaveny, principal of Tavares High School, announced that Audrey McConnell has been named a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to this scholastically talented senior. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
We are excited to announce that HBCU Week is hosting a College Fair at Disney Wide World of Sports on October 24, 2024, from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to receive on-the-spot college scholarships and acceptances!
The college fair is open to all 12th-grade students with a 2.5 GPA or higher and 11th-grade students with a 3.3 GPA or higher.

The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday continues through Sunday, August 11. It is designed to help Florida families save money on essential items students need for the upcoming year. It includes items such as Up to $1,500 for personal computers, tablets electronic book readers, headphones and related accessories; school supplies selling for $50 or less, such as binders, notebooks, folders, markers and pencils; backpacks, clothing and footwear up to $100; and learning aids and related resources such as flashcards, interactive books and matching games selling for $30 or less.
The 2024-2025 Student Parking application is now available to be completed by juniors and seniors. Seniors may access the form via the Google Classroom (Code: xp75sxd) and Juniors may access through Google Classroom (Code: ba5d7kn).
